happy mother’s day

Happy Mother’s Day to all you Moms and Mom-to-be! I sure had a great weekend celebrating my first mother’s day. On Saturday we went out to dinner. Mimi came over with the intent of being on night duty so that Brian and I could sleep downstairs in our guest bedroom and enjoy a night of uninterrupted sleep. Turns out, Finley has a set of pipes and I could still hear her despite being on a different floor and opposite end of the house. It was the thought that counts though…thanks Mimi. Bright and early Sunday morning we had an infant dedication class (which is June 1st at 11 if anyone wants to come). Afterwards we stuck around for church and PTL we had more success in the nursery! Then we were off to celebrate with Brian’s family. We had a pizza making competition, boys vs. girls. I’m sad to say that the boy’s “woo your woman” pizza won by a landslide. We topped off the night by having sundae’s with Mimi and Grandpa. As usual, it was a very busy weekend…but oh so much fun. And as a gift to Mama, Finley decided to sleep through the night without making a single peep-the best gift of all!

go figure

Today we went and got Finley’s pictures taken. Both Grandmas came to try and provoke smiles, but sure enough our happy little baby was as serious as a heart attack. In two hours we got about 3 sort-of smiles. But as soon as that little hinney hit the car seat she was full of grins. I swear, that daughter of mine is more stubborn than Brian and I put together-which is saying A LOT!

HELP!

This morning at church Finley was in a particularly playful mood so we decided to give the nursery a try. I took her downstairs and dropped her off and headed back upstairs with my pager. About five minutes later my ears perked up. I went downstairs just to peak on Finley and sure enough she was hysterical. Now, let me remind you that the sanctuary is on another floor. How I heard her is beyond me…must be a sixth sense. So here’s my predicament. How do you respond to child that is scared when you’re away? I don’t want her to be fearful, but I also don’t want to raise a child that is such a “mama’s girl”. Oh, and it’s not just strangers. She won’t anyone hold her except her Papa, Mimi and I. The rest of the family is praying that this is a stage and so I am. Please give me some advice!

weekend fun

This weekend was jam packed. Brian was in a wedding,we hung out with friends, Finley and I went to a wedding shower for our cousin Lisa, we hung out with more friends, went to church, went to a birthday lunch for Brian’s mom, and then had some fun out in our yard. Here’s some pictures of the craziness…

Having some fun in the car.

Finley scooted herself all the way off her blanket and across the hardwood.

Loving that can pull herself up…

Playing bocce ball with mama and papa (mama won by the way)

standing is the new sitting

This weekend while Mimi was visiting we left Finley to play in her crib for a couple minutes. All the sudden we heard Mimi screaming from Finley’s room, “Come quick, she’s standing!” Sure enough, there she was, peaking over the rail with a proud grin. I’m a little miffed that I wasn’t there to see her first time, but she’s given me plenty of opportunity to see her new trick. Now every time we try to sit her down on her bottom she goes stiff as a board and wont bend to sit. She wants to stand all the time. Needless to say, we immediately lowered the crib.

gene coulon park

Today we had to cancel Finley’s portraits due to a nasty runny nose. Instead we went and scoped out a new park with Mimi. More pics are in the album. Finley loved people watching and checking out all the beautiful scenery. Well, it was beautiful until we stumbled upon this…

As she sat there rubbing her 8 month belly and blowing smoke in the faces of her other children I had to bite my tongue. If you want to smoke, that is your choice, but DON’T do it while you are pregnant! ARGH!

first taste of chocolate

She is so happy to taste a new food.
Fast forward 5 years when she gets into mama’s lipstick (not that I own any).

Apparently self feeding builds confidence. Mostly it makes a mess, but its fun to watch her determination.
Before the Grandmas call the Nutrition Police, no-it’s not really chocolate. It’s actually her first taste of prunes. Which are almost as delicious as chocolate, right? Well, she sure thought so (and my grandpa probably agrees)!

guess who finally made an appearance…

…MR. TOP TOOTH! She’s such a big girl.

And perhaps even more exciting. Finley went to bed at 8:00 last night and we didn’t hear a peep out of her until 7:10. No, no, that’s not a typo. I woke up at 4:00 am and freaked out when I realized I’d been asleep for a solid 6 hours. I ran into her room and made sure she was breathing. Then I spent the next hour laying in bed awake thinking about how excited I was that she was sleeping so well. Go figure. Once the shock wore off I enjoyed a few more hours of sleep and woke up feeling like a new woman.
