our never ending project list

hopefully you have some fun activities planned for the long weekend. us? we (and by “we”, i mean brian) are planning on knocking some items off our long list of household projects. our house has come a LONG way since we moved in, but for the sake of making our space more efficient, beautiful, and up-to date we have a way to go still. here is the master list that’s been hanging our on fridge.

-install and paint new trim for upstairs
-paint upstairs living area and bathroom
-install new bathroom floor upstairs
-install tile floor in slop room
-paint the entire downstairs (this has been done twice, we just suck at choosing colors)
-downstairs renovation (taking out a wall between two small rooms and making one big room)
-paint new upstairs doors
-install new carpet downstairs (this has been done twice as well. stupid floods! still saving for this project :)
-install bead board in finley’s room and repaint
-repaint and repurpose new big girl furniture for finley’s room
-paint, decorate, etc the baby’s room (after we know what we’re having)

so there it is.

oh, and here’s a question. toddler bed or big girl twin bed? i have my old headboard that fits a twin that will be super cute after i paint and recover the fabric, but i just can’t picture my little lady in such a big bed. i go back and forth every day, so please offer some wisdom.

pictures

my camera has been broken for the last couple weeks due to an incident involving spilled juice in the diaper bag. I just got a new one today, and I’m really hoping that i get back on track with the picture taking. My mom was out visiting this week, so here are some photos off her camera.

out for a walk with brittney and crystal.

sitting on the pig at the public market.
i just love her smile.

at the beach with her buddy.

helping mama get dinner ready.

her little fingers are perfect for tearing lettuce.

riding the “choo choo train” (aka lightrail) downtown for dinner and people watching.
she squealed the WHOLE way.

{ first trimester }

It occurred to me that since I was so diligent about documenting every little thing through my first pregnancy, I should probably jot down some tidbits about things this time around. Not that there is anything too interesting going on. But alas, here goes….

-first appt (12.5 weeks) got to hear the heartbeat and go in for an unexpected ultrasound. I can’t believe how it already looks like a real baby!!

-been feeling pretty darn good. every so often i get a little fatigued, but it’s not so much a sleepy kind of tired as just a lazy kind of tired.

-my only food aversion has been to my starbucks beverage. hallelujah!! it was an expensive habit that i’d been wanting to break.

-baby bump is starting to show. probably not to anyone else, but i can tell. also, i have noticed that my “baby bump” is extremely dependent on how much i eat/drink. it’s definitely more prominent after a big meal, and i don’t remember that from last time.

-finley’s take on the baby: she gets that there is a baby in my tummy. she lifts up my shirt and kisses my stomach. she prays for the baby at night. she says “hello” to the pictures on the fridge every time she walks by. unfortunately, i think she’s under the impression that she is getting both a baby brother, and a baby sister. we have referred to the baby as “your baby brother or your baby sister”, and i just don’t think she grasps the “or” part. hopefully we’ll be able to drill that point home after we find out what we’re having. which leads me to…

-we are definitely going to find out the sex, and we can hardly wait! we only have a girl name picked out right now. is it just me or are boy names harder?

-i’ve known since having finley that i would need to have c-sections from here on out. i’ve wondered if once i was pregnant i would get sad about it and wish for a vaginal delivery (sorry i just said vaginal on my blog). I’m actually pretty okay the whole thing. There are definitely some perks to a scheduled delivery, especially with a toddler in the picture. So i’m just focusing on that. Plus, maybe i won’t look like hell warmed over in all our photos. See. This is me talking myself into it.

That’s about all. Nothing too major. My camera has been broken for the last few weeks, but i have some pictures from my mom’s visit that hopefully i’ll get around to posting soon.

our new favorite place

All you moms out there might get a little jealous when i tell you that we live 3 minutes away from a toddler splash park. That’s right. 3 minutes away! From a place where my child can splash! And run through sprinklers! And squeal as much as she wants! She absolutely loves it. And when she’s had enough of the water, we walk over to the playground which is built especially for little ones. It’s toddler heaven.

strawberry picking

A few weeks ago we went strawberry picking. At first Finley was very helpful, but she quickly delegated herself to official strawberry taster.

And here’s where i lost my little helper…

oops. that was was a little too dirty.

messy hands…

“oh dear!”

a special video announcement

This didn’t go exactly how I planned it. And I really wish I would have taken 30 seconds to tidy up the house, or at least move the towel from where finley peed. but, oh well! it was a VERY special and exciting moment for our family that we’d like to share with all of you.

{ june }

i swear that time flies by even faster when the weather is nice. is it seriously halfway through june? we’ve been spending every chance we get out in the yard, at the beach (i use that term liberally) or at the toddler water park by our house (which i’ll save for another post). finley is in her element when she’s playing outside…climbing, exploring, anything involving water, looking for flowers and animals, and especially the freedom to be as loud as she wants (which is really loud, trust me). and in my humble opinion, the best thing about being in the great outdoors is that the tantrums and timeouts are almost non-existent. there are no battles over sitting nicely in the shopping cart. no exhaustive conversations about sharing. aside from 1 or 2 boundaries involving safety she is free to do whatever she chooses. she loves it. we love it. everybody is happy.

our little ballerina

this week we had the pleasure of watching our friend’s daughters perform in a dance production. Unlike the “dancing” i did as a kid, they are the real deal. Sissy and elena are very talented and watching them was such a treat. is it just me that thinks dancers are just so cool? finley was totally mesmerized by all the dancers and their pretty costumes. she clapped along with the audience and yelled out “sissy!” and “elena!” when they were on stage. after it was over she put on her own show in the lobby…always such an entertainer.

finally an excuse to wear her tutu out of the house

elena and finley. how did we not get one with sydney?!
