allow me to introduce

bolero girl.

I made this little summer jacket for finley. The pattern calls it a bolero. The name really stuck with her. She has been running around saying “da na na na na na BOLERO GIRL!”
I think it will look better without long sleeves underneath, but of course it is raining on this JUNE day! On the way out of church it was pouring, and finley screamed “ahhhhhhhh my bolero is getting wet!!”
tell me that’s not hilarious.
This was a simplicity pattern, and it was titled “sewing for dummies”. While it was actually pretty simple in theory, I still messed up twice {which i guess makes me a huge dummy}. In my defense though, I was working with linen which does not have a right and wrong side.
And I ran into a little trouble because i wanted to line mine. and apparently when you line a bolero you should not sew the arm holes shut until you flip it right side out. You will end up with a huge ruffled log.
Thank goodness for thread snipers.
We’re off to celebrate my husband for the WONDERFUL father that he is.

cheap wallart

I had two little helpers in the kitchen this morning. Surprisingly, there was some batter left to bake with!

…………….
I’ve been trying to think of something to do with this odd shaped canvas we’ve had sitting around. I just used some pink and green papers and came up with some art for Finley’s room. It was super easy-probably took 45 minutes total. Cheap AND easy…my favorite kind of project!

6.12.10

Today is saturday and brian is working. BOO! But, for a saturday without daddy around it shaped up to be a pretty darn good one.

we played in the pool
baby was her usual happy, smiley self
and this one was pretty cute too
chocolate chip cookie for the little miss and an iced latte for me
precious little toes got to see the light of day
lots for her curious little eyes to take in
 a nice long nap in the sun
a cute little ruffled patootie
lots, and lots, and lots of bubbles. which makes big sister laugh a lot.
hope you enjoyed the beautiful day too!

pictures with mommy

Looking through photo albums, i realized that i have TONS of pictures with my first baby and approximately two with little adalaide. so…. we took some pictures together this weekend. they definitely look “jcpenny-ish” but, it’s better than nothing.

Finley spent the weekend out with Mimi. Of course we missed her very much, but i did enjoy how quiet and clean our house was. I had all sorts of plans for how I would relax while she was away, but instead I spent hours cleaning. Shocking, i know. There was just something so rewarding about cleaning and knowing that it would stay that way, at least for a little while. I thoroughly enjoyed the extra snuggle time with adalaide, and we made a significant dent in our dvr’d shows. thanks mom!
.
We ended the weekend at one of our favorite parks. We had just planned on playing at the park, but Finley noticed that the sprinkler park was up and running for the first time this season. She has looked forward to this all year and talks about the water park all the time. We hadn’t brought a swimsuit so she rolled up her jeans and her sleeves, and what started out as getting her toes wet quickly turned into full on running through the sprinklers. She ran around squealing and chasing the other kids, pretty much having more fun that i have ever seen her have.  It was the perfect end to our holiday weekend.

some random thoughts

::  brian’s new company is really taking off, and i’m really proud of him {and his partner}

::  baby has been on expensive special formula {that smells like cat food} for her poo problem, and it’s working. soooo, now i am attempting to go off dairy in hopes that she can handle breastmilk. for the last 6 days i’ve been trying unsuccessfully to remember that i can’t have dairy. it’s so hard. i remember the obvious stuff like cheese and milk, but i forget about all the other things that contain small amounts of dairy.

:: i’m still dying over “shooter” from the bachelorette. if you’re watching you know who i’m talking about. some people…

:: i haven’t posted many pictures of the projects brian has done around our house, but someday i will. this is one of my very favorite things that he’s done, and it just so happens to be one of the simplest and cheapest!

It’s a laundry folding table, incase you couldn’t tell. don’t know why i love it so much, but i do. i actually enjoy folding laundry in there.
::  i have been listening to nothing but taylor swift for the last month. over, and over, and over. it’s finley’s favorite, and she sounds so adorable singing along. last week while we were driving she said, “thank you, God for taylor swift”.
:: adalaide is giggling. it is the cutest thing in the whole. wide. world. i love her.

a birthday celebration for mimi

This weekend we celebrated my mom’s birthday. The weather held out {barely} so we spent the morning at the fremont farmers market, and then came back to our house for a little birthday dinner.

{my new favorite dress on finley-from target}
……..
{my grandparents finally got to meet adalaide}
{someone sure loves her baby sister}

a lot of randomness

man, oh man we’ve had a great weekend. brian was around, and the weather was beautiful-what more could you ask for! finley and i kicked off the weekend with a little tea party. when she woke up from naptime we got dressed up and had delicious treats out in the sun.
i pretty much loved every single picture i took of her, and since i’m sensing this is going to be a loooong post, you can check out the rest in the online album.
this little cutie woke up to join us
friday night we were snuggling with the girls in our bed. brian got caught up in the moment and suggested that finley have a sleepover in our bed. i had other plans for the night {i.e. catching up on lots of our shows in bed} but it was a night i’ll never forget that’s for sure. she’s never slept with us, so she was absolutely giddy. She probably told me 20 times that i was “the best mommy in the whole wide world”. and despite the fact that she used my face as her pillow, it was totally worth it.
finley made me out of play dough. this is the first time she’s ever made a person that actually resembles a person. don’t mind the fact that i have a tail. and don’t mind that it appears i’m giving the middle finger…
just being adorable
another one of brian’s crazy ideas was to set up our new pool. you know, because it was hotter than 60 degrees out.
brian with his signature look
of course it was a big hit. she kept screaming, “summer is here!!!”.
whew, that was a lot. can you believe we fit the zoo and church somewhere in there too?!

nursery photos

Adalaide’s room has been finished for a while now, but I’ve been hesitant to post any pictures because I’m not quite finished working on it. I have no idea when I’ll actually get around to the last few projects so I’m just going to post some pictures anyway. I’m really happy with how it all turned out. It is such a bright, cozy space. We actually find ourselves congregating in there quite often. Which I guess is no surprise considering that the oversized chair pretty much calls my name all day long.

A big huge thanks to my dear husband for doing the woodwork. Because if we’re being honest, it’s what really makes the room {as he so humbly reminds me all the time}. And thank you to my mom for “working in meghan’s sweatshop” {her words} to help me finish all my sewing projects.

So, without further ado…

i shortened these $14 ikea curtains and used the
extra fabric to make these pillows & the crib skirt.
i love that this antique dresser came with a little girls silhoutte painted on it
i should also give brian credit for hanging these glitter numbers so precisely
No, one of these tissue paper pom poms did NOT fall down into the crib. and NO i did not find adalaide’s
arm all tangled in the fishing line. ok, that did happen, but don’t worry i hung them with better hooks.
crib skirt from extra fabric
and hands down the cutest part of the room.

mothers

I have a lot to be thankful for this mother’s day.

I am extremely fortunate to have married into a family full of such wonderful women. I look up to Brian’s mom and Grandma very much, and I love that we are so close.

My mother is just about the best mom and Grandma you can imagine. I never would have guessed that her and I would end up with such a close relationship, but I’m so glad we have.
 I thank God for making me a mom, and for giving us the most delightful little girls. They bring me so much joy.
For as long as I can remember I have looked forward to being a mom. I wanted to be a mom so badly that I used to fear I wouldn’t be able to have kids {weird fear for a teenager, i know}. The gift of motherhood is definitely not something I take for granted.
happy {belated} mother’s day
