going country

Brian purchased our home while we were dating, not knowing that we would end up living there, and certainly not knowing that our first little one was just around the corner. We moved into the house after we got married, and i wasn’t too keen on the area initially. Brian told me to give it a year, and if I still wasn’t loving it, we could talk about relocating. A year passed, we made tons of great friends in the area, and we worked hard remodeling things here and there. I made peace with where we lived, but part of my heart always longed {i hate the word longed, but i can’t think of another one} to be living out in the country. For so many different reasons, I love the country. As I’ve gotten older and added little ones into the mix, I’ve been feeling the pull even more.

Problem was, my husband wasn’t on board. Not even a little bit.

Until now. On our recent road trip, he blurted out that he wanted to move the country. He started spouting off all these thoughts and ideas about why we should move, the dream house he would build for us, and the life we could give our children. I was blown away by his change of heart. Seriously, if you know him, you understand what a HUGE and SHOCKING turn of events this is.

So, now we’ve been checking out properties in the country. We think we might have found “the one”. There are still several different things that we would have to figure out before it actually happens.  But that’s okay. We’re on the same page, and that’s the first {and most important}step!

We’d like to find some renters for our house, so if you know of anyone who might be interested pass along our information. It’s a 4 bedroom, 2 bath, with a newly remodeled kitchen and basement, and a huge yard. I know I’m biased, but i think it’s a darling house.

So yeah. Crazy, exciting, scary things going on here. We’ll keep you posted…

summer fun

can you imagine a more beautiful place to kick up your feet?
pickin’ berries, swimming, horseback riding, picnics at the park…can’t get much better.
and best of all, i’m an auntie to another precious boy. that makes 3 babies in 5 months! hooray!

vacation

We had the BEST time on our vacation. We started the trip with our friends, the Hage’s, and then we had some time with just our family, and we finished off the vacation with my family. It was beyond wonderful for us to have so much time together… just relaxing, no connection to the outside world {except for when we tuned in to watch the bachelorette, of course}.

what fireworks? they had too much fun playing in the back of the car.
the little burger shack has the most amazing strawberry ice cream.
i may have indulged in it once or twice…or four times.
the girls loved the water! it took finley a little while to work up the nerve to swim on her own.
once she did, we couldn’t keep her away from the water.
pretty good self-timer shot, if i do say so
i love how pale the baby stayed. i was a sunscreen psycho!
adalaide was so easy going. she napped at the beach, poolside, in the car, and in the stroller.
our big girl went down the water slides all by herself. she was quite proud!
finley wanted to wear this dress the entire trip. i drew the line when she suggested sleeping in it.
i’m not a huge fan of purple, but i might become one. i love the way adalaide’s skin/eyes look in this outfit!
waiting for her turn on the jet ski
tuckered out on the way home
here’s a few videos, and you can check out some more pictures in the online album.
can’t get enough of this laugh!

some random information

:: In 46 hours our family is going on holiday, and i cannot possibly put into words how excited i am. brian has worked all but two days in the last 2 months. and oftentimes he comes home after his 10 hour day and does more work {checking out jobs, writing up bids, shopping for materials}. i am extremely thankful that his business thriving, and i know that this is his busiest season… BUT… i am so frickin’ excited to have lots and lots of time with him. i’m giddy just thinking about it!

:: i’ve had a few people inquire about my camera. it’s a nikon D 3000. i think it retails for around $500. I am embarrassed to say that I’ve had it for 6 months and I still don’t know anything about it. The only button I ever touch is the dial on top which switches the modes {portrait, outdoor, no flash, etc}. Someday I’d love to take a class to learn how to use it to it’s full potential. Maybe I could even learn how to take a decent indoor picture?!

:: I’ve also had several people ask about the flowers that you see the girls wearing. Crazy as it is, people have even been paying me to make them!! If you are crafty at all, they are really simple to make. There’s a few different styles.

One style involves cutting out and folding fabric circles. here’s a tutorial

Another style is made by sewing a ruffle and shaping it into a flower. i like using linen, because i like the frayed look.

The easiest one, in my opinion, involves burning the edges of a burnable fabric. i use silk.
mostly i use the flowers as hair accessories for the girls, but sometimes i like to use them for other fun
things, like…
or
or
someone had me make over-sized flowers to embellish her adorable flower girl dresses {i wanna see a pic!}
someone else had me make pins to give away as gifts for mother’s day.
and someone else used them to put on top of gifts {i love doing this too}.
i think they’re a fun accessory, and i do love getting my girls dolled up for special occasions.
hope this was helpful.

strawberry picking

When I was born my mom started a daycare so that she could stay home with me and make some money at the same time. 28 years later, she’s still doing it. I loved growing up with all the other kids around, and now my daughters get to enjoy it every now and then too. This morning we went strawberry picking.

Finley absolutely adores all her “big kid friends”
they taught her which strawberries to pick
of course she had to taste them
lots of fun running up and down the rows
if only they could be a little more outgoing :)
thanks for inviting us along, mom!

the girls

……….
Adalaide turns four months old today. In some ways it feels like time has flown by, and in some ways I can’t remember what life was like without her. She is extremely laid back, happy to just sit back and take in all the craziness around her. Shortly after she turned 2 months old she started sleeping through the night, and getting into a nice daytime routine with longer awake times and longer naps.

She loves to snuggle, and buries her head in your neck or armpit whenever she can. She smiles all the time, and gets so excited when someone stops to engage her. She is showing zero interest in rolling over, and isn’t too keen on sitting her bumbo for more than a few minutes. She is laughing, cooing, and making all sorts of adorable sounds. She loves bath time. She’s not a huge eater. She likes to be swaddled, and swaddled tight.
I recently did the math and figured out that finley has passed the 2 1/2 year mark. crazy! that girl is a dynamic little thing. sometimes shy and cautious, but mostly outgoing and silly. she loves to be the center of attention. she loves making us laugh. and she really, truly is hilarious. she has a memory that is unbelievable, especially for places. she has started a reading program and is picking it up pretty quickly.
she loves to play outside. loves playing with older kids. loves to be a helper in the kitchen. loves to dance and listen to music-currently obsessed with taylor swift #6. She loves to do art {recently drew her first recognizable face} and to play with playdough.
we’re working on sharing, having her listen and obey us {the first time}, getting her to pick up her stuff when she’s done, and to use a kind voice {my greatest annoyance is her naughty yell}.

She is all about routine, especially at bedtime. When we tuck her in we have to say the same things every night: happy valentines day, happy easter, no more crying, dream happy thoughts, no dogs, and no gorillas. If you forget one part she will remind you. Don’t ask me why these things stuck with her, but for some reason they have, and brian and i laugh about it every single night.
she loves her baby sister, and has had very little jealousy issues. i think once adalaide is a little older and starts to steal the attention spotlight it might be another story though.
I can’t believe how fast time is flying by. Since I’m terrible at doing baby books, i want to at least document
these memories here.

daddy

Sometimes I need my husband to reign me in and remind me that not all moments should be shared on the blog. I can’t imagine why he wouldn’t be thrilled about me posting pictures of him half-naked, in all his hairy chest glory, enjoying his breakfast in bed with the girls. prude.
anyway.

i know it’s a day late, but i wanted to give him a big shout out. finley doesn’t quite get what these special days are about {she insisted that i write ‘happy valentines day’ in his card}.Even though she couldn’t come up with the words on her own, i KNOW that she is especially thankful for:

: his piggy back rides

: the night night stories he tells her

: that he plays chase

: their shared love of cottage cheese

: trips to lowes and home depot

: the fact that he is silly and will do somersaults and cartwheels

: the times when he wants to be near her and he squeezes himself between both carseats in the car

: their daily phone chats

and of course for the fact that he works so hard to take care of us.

you are a wonderful father, babe. we are so lucky to have you!
