fancy make-up

these pictures look a little planned, with the matching dresses and all…but actually they were just trying on their Easter dresses, and finley begged to put on some fancy makeup. i had to run and grab my camera because the whole thing was just too much. i never, ever, EVER like all {or nearly all} the pictures i take. but i pretty much thought every single one of these was adorable-which is why i’m posting so many :)

finally got around to doing some decorating in lyla’s room.

she is taking a few steps. still quite wobbly, but getting close!

adalaide’s 2nd birthday

a few days ago our little adalaide turned two. we’re having a celebration for her this weekend, but i thought i’d share some photos from her actual birthday.

……

we started off with special treats

cheers!

i let finley skip her nap so she could help me bake adalaide’s cake and wrap a couple gifts.

the finished result

showing off her new age!

valentines day

we had a great valentines day this year. it was of course filled with lots of love, pink, and sweet stuff. don’t worry these treats weren’t all for us.

poor lyla is sick with a cold, so she slept all through breakfast. but she enjoyed chewing on her valentine later in the morning.

lyla { 9 months}

i almost can’t stand how much love i have for this girl. i really think i might be obsessed with her. her dimple, her rolly polly thighs, her happy squeals, and open-mouthed kisses-  yes, i most certainly am obsessed with my lyla.

at nine months she is moving constantly- crawling, walking along furniture, standing briefly on her own. she has two teeth. she is a great eater, and quite amazing with fingers foods. she loves her binky and blankie. she loves bathtime, and playing with whatever toys her big sisters are using.

and by far my favorite ‘skill’ that she’s picked up is snuggling. she lays her head against my chest and it pretty much melts my heart. it’s funny because it’s not that obvious of a milestone, but i remember so clearly with each of the girls when they started doing it.

happy nine months lyla girl!

snow fun

boy, has it been an exciting week around these parts. we finally got the snow we’ve been wishing for all winter, and we got TONS of it. so much that trees were falling down all around us under the weight of the snow. we lost power for 3 days, got it back on for a day, and lost it again for another day. it was an interesting couple days to the say the least, but i was so proud how our girls just rolled with punches.

we got a kick out of watching lyla with these socks on her hands. they didn’t slow her down one bit or keep her from playing with her toys of picking up food.

sleeping in her car seat in front of the fire.

……

here’s a video of our snow fun. a few things i would like to point out:

1. there is nothing cuter than a toddler trying to walk in snow gear. so cute!

2. when we went sledding it was freezing rain and soooo windy. finley was hardcore!

3. brian and finley went on 30 or more runs without falling. i went on 1 and fell.

4. i almost peed my pants laughing.

i know that brian, like a lot of men, wasn’t ecstatic about the unexpected time off work. he gets antsy worrying about deadlines and money, but he really made this week a lot of fun for us. thank you b for making the girls chocolate milk on the bbq, buying a $50 sled when everything else was sold out- i know it went against every fiber of your being, for driving us around the icy roads, for warming up the girl’s blankets in front of the fire {even though you accidentally singed finley’s special baby blanket}, for being a fun dad who plays with your kids in the snow, and for pushing aside your work worries and making our week a memorable one.

family photos

a few months ago we had our friend kelsey take our photos. i can’t tell you how much i love them, and how special it is to have so many fun pictures of the people i love most in this world. as you will see, i’m having trouble narrowing down which ones are my favorites to frame!

napping

we took the front side off adalaide’s crib, since she keeps trying to climb out. now that she’s ‘free’ i’ve found her asleep in some interesting places. i freaked out today when i couldn’t find her, but there she was fast asleep in her big sister’s bed. it was pretty darn cute!
